Festive Fashion for Men

Tis’ not only the season to be jolly, but also to make sure we all wrap up warm and as stylish as our Christmas pressies!

Most women see the Christmas period as a time to spruce up their winter wardrobe (and add a few additional party outfits on their letters to Santa), but what about you guys?

Luckily for the gents, this festive season offers a multitude of choice. From chunky knit wear, military-esc or lumberjack shirts and jackets, to sophisticated and suave tailoring, there is in fact such variety that you’re going to need a larger stocking…

Knitwear for men has made a huge come-back this season, with Paul Smith and D&G showcasing their designs during the autumn/winter 2010 runway shows.

A popular choice is the Paul Smith large Fair Isle knit jumper. Made from a wool and angora mix, it guaranteed to keep you extra toasty during the winter months!

Chunky-knit cardigans are also a popular alternative to the old faithful hoodie. For those on a more affordable budget, Jack and Jones have a great selection of all knitwear ranging from around £20 to £120.

For the party animals out there this season is highly influenced by traditional British heritage designs. Carrot jeans, tailored shirts teamed with tanks tops or smart blazers offer a quirk yet smart vintage look for the office party. Matalan’s Taylor and Wright Piped Dinner Jacket with black satin detail on the lapel would be perfect, and at only £40 it won’t break the bank either!

Worn, military style boots would finish this look off perfectly, while providing a sturdy grip on the pavement navigating the way home from the pub on Christmas Eve! River Island stocks an excellent range.

There is, of course, an option for those who are perhaps a little less intrepid with current fashion trends. Men can’t go wrong this Christmas with a smart shirt, dark indigo jeans and a pair of stylish shoes or ankle boots.

Velvet is also a must this season, and a tailored jacket would be ideal to bring this look up-to-date. Alternatively, for those who have made it to the top of Santa’s “VERY Good List”, D&G have a short length, modern cut, wool Coat that would also be ideal. Although at the higher end of the price range, it would make a timeless investment for any man’s wardrobe.

Finally, if a complete change of attire isn’t required there are a few key, yet simple, accessories to lift any outfit.

Vivien Westwood offers a range of scarves as bold or subdued as you like. Pretty Green also offer a collection of on trend neckerchiefs as an alternative .  However, you could kill two turkeys with one stone and opt for a classic hat and scarf gift set from Ralph Lauren.

If all else fails, I’ve heard there is a tailor in the North Pole who specializes in warm winter clothing. The only downfall is there is only one design range, mainly in red with white faux-fur, so you may not stand out in a crowed if his collection takes off as predicted ;-)

Merry Christmas all!
