36 mile Sumo Run by Mike Buss

Leicester Comedy Festival is only 2 days away now (4-20 February) but runner Mike Buss is going to have a slightly more arduous start to the festival than most!

Mike Buss – The Running Man and the UKs most talked about Ultra Marathon Athlete and multiple world record breaker will kick off Leicester Comedy Festival 2011 by running 36 miles to all 36 comedy festival venues in Leicester City Centre. And just for a laugh he is doing it in a Sumo Suit!

Mike will start this Comedy Run on Friday 4th February at 8:30am, leaving the Leicester Comedy Festival Business Breakfast attended by around 100 of Leicester’s Business directors and company owners. The breakfast and Mike’s run will start at De Montfort University’s Hugh Aston Building, Magazine Square, DMU Campus, Leicester and will finish at theAlmanack Restaurant at 5.30pm the same day. Whilst at The Almanack, Mike will launch the Official Leicester Comedy Festival Running Joke, involving a small team of fun runners who will run from venue to venue taking in 52.4 miles across the 17 days of the festival.

The Running Joke is a unique charity fundraising project that has become an integral part of Leicester Comedy Festival raising money for Prostaid (The Leicestershire, Rutland and Northamptonshire Prostate Cancer Charity). Donations can be made viawww.justgiving.com/runningjoke2011

Kate Owen, who manages the Running Joke project, said “Being involved in The Running Joke in 2010 was a great experience but at times it was a little lonely!*

*last year Kate completed the entire double marathon all by herself!

“Most days the routes mean you run relatively small distances, building up to a double marathon over the 17 days. If I can complete it, anyone can!”

In 2010 Mike Buss made it into the headlines as the most talked about Ultra Marathon Athlete after breaking 14 world records in just 12 months, including running the greatest distance in 7 days (517.25 miles), running the greatest number of back to back marathons on a treadmill (100 marathons in 100 consecutive days) and ran the most times up and down Mt. Snowdon in North Wales carrying a 40lbs pack.
