SHOUT Festival 2011

SHOUT Festival 2011

September

From 3rd-26th November the third annual SHOUT Festival will be taking over Birmingham, and for the first time Wolverhampton and West Bromwich, with their Festival of Queer Culture.

SHOUT is one of Birmingham’s most unique independent festivals, showcasing new provocative, entertaining and challenging queer film, visual art, music, theatre, literature and community events- all hosted by venues like Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery, mac Birmingham, Town Hall, St Paul’s Church and The Fox.

Highlights this year include Amy Lamé, Janis Ian, April Ashley- a living and legend and one of the most important figures in the transgender community, Alan Hollinghurst and David Hoyle alongside some of the most exciting and unique talent from across the UK including Sophia Blackwall, Mandy Romero, Joey Hateley, Joseph Mercier and Zorras.

There’s a massive range of different events to attend, some of them free, throughout the festival which not only shows off some of the amazing work from the above featured artists but also showcases the diversity of Birmingham and the huge LGBTQ community.

Also, from the beginning of October through until November, SHOUT Film Season takes place at a range of venues around Birmingham. Many of the films are being screened at mac Birmingham but please check the brochure on the SHOUT website for more information and screening times.

Keep your eyes peeled here at 69 Degrees as we’ll be covering SHOUT in a lot more detail as we get closer to the festival and highlighting some of our personal picks from the line-up.

In the meantime, head over to shoutfestival.co.uk for tons more information about all things SHOUT and to download the brochure.
