Friday saw the opening of the long awaited film adaptation of Lionel Shriver’s “We Need To Talk About Kevin”.
The film is heartbreaking and intense, following the mother of a teenage boy who went on a high-school killing spree as she tries to deal with her grief and sense of responsibility. With pitch-perfect performances from Tilda Swinton and Ezra Miller, and an exquisitely tight script, the film leaves the audience with an overwhelming sense of sorrow, with few, if any, moments of relief. Misery porn of the highest order.
Despite that, We Need To Talk About Kevin is visually stunning and gripping. We’d recommend a trip to the cinema to see it, although it may be worth lining up the Disney films for before and after.
If you’ve not seen it, here’s the trailer.
