Leicester band’s bid for a charity Christmas Number One!

A LEICESTER band is making a bid for this year’s Christmas number one with their charity single – and you can be a part of it!

Local band The Wry Dogs are aiming to raise money for the Our Space Appeal to build a new children and young people’s cancer unit at Leicester Royal Infirmary by donating all the profits from downloads of their single, Big Kid Christmas, to the hospital.

Wayne Kelly is frontman for the Wry Dogs and a producer at local media company MGL Media, based in the LCB Depot in Leicester.

He explains: “As a local business, we like to do something for charity every year – and in the past what we’ve put on small live music events to raise funds for Cancer Research. We’ve raised more than £7,000 this way.

“When we heard about a campaign to raise money for a children and young person’s cancer unit at the LRI, we decided we needed to do something a little more ambitious and launch our bid to top the charts at Christmas!

Wayne continues: “The song is a very tongue-in-cheek throwback to the great fun Christmas songs of the 70′s from bands like Wizzard and Slade. We really want local people to get behind us, help support our bid and raise funds for the LRI by both downloading the single and sharing the music video, which features Willie Thorne, Showaddywaddy, LCFC’s Alan Birchenall and literally hundreds of the Leicester public.”

The single will only be available to buy online from iTunes, Amazon, Play and several other retailers from December 18th, but you can pre-order your copy now at play.com – just follow the link on the main Big Kid Xmas site. Downloads cost 99p, with all the profits going to the Our Space Appeal.
