With public demand for Curve’s Christmas show 42ND STREET seeing over 25,000 tickets already sold, Curve is delighted to announce 8 performances have been added to the run of this deliciously uplifting musical extravaganza. 42nd STREET will now run for 7 weeks, until Saturday 21 January 2012.
Paul Kerryson says; “We’ve had fantastic interest in our autumn season and whilst we expected good sales for 42ND STREET, we are truly excited by the fact that this show has appealed to so many theatre goers and is bringing so many new visitors to Curve.
“We’ve fortunately been able to add this extra week, which gives us the chance to welcome 6400 more people to Curve and experience this exhilarating musical before we move on to our exciting spring programme.”
Curve’s production of 42ND STREET has a cast of 23 breath-taking singers and dancers, a 14 piece orchestra and takes full advantage of the technical prowess of the theatre.
Described by theatre critics as the ‘big daddy of backstage musicals,’ 42ND STREET is the story of an American small town girl and her meteoric rise from chorus line hoofer to Broadway star.
30 years after the Broadway premiere and nearly 80 years since the story’s first incarnation hit the big screen, 42ND STREET is one of the biggest, brightest and boldest dance musicals ever – sure to put audiences in the mood for festive celebrations. Packed with show-stopping numbers, the score includes We’re in the Money, Keep Young and Beautiful, Lullaby of Broadway and of course the spectacular title number, 42nd Street.
Last year’s Curve Christmas musical, THE KING AND I, received critical acclaim and was seen by over 36,000 people, proving so successful that it has transferred to Edinburgh this Christmas before embarking on a major UK tour, taking the name of Leicester and its reputation for producing exceptional theatre to over 20 venues throughout 2012.
