In 2011, tailoring company A Suit That Fits called for suit lovers to design their very own dapper creations to be sold on their website!
In May, 10 designers were shortlisted by an expert judging panel, including TV presenter Rick Edwards, Alan Cannon Jones (Principal Lecturer at The London College of Fashion) and Mighel Critten (Product Development Manager at A Suit That Fits) which were then posted online for the public vote.
Alongside Tom Evans (Plymouth University) and Trung Le (London College of Fashion), winner Diana Oancea, studying at Coventry University, was chosen to have their design developed and sold online.
Diana’s women’s suit is made from a heritage check. Diana studied law in Romania and practiced as a barrister for 5 years in Bucharest, specialising in criminal law. “The transition from law to fashion was natural because the connection between law and art is that both are up for interpretation” she says. Her inspiration came from several characters, including Beau Brummell, Oscar Wilde, George Clooney for his effortless style and Marlene Dietrich, who can wear masculine suits with a feminine edge. Diana loves haute couture and her suit brings a strong tradition into the 21st century.
Congratulations Diana! If you’re interested in purchasing her design, or just fancy taking a peek, head to A Suit That Fits.
