January
Ahead of the biggest shopping weekend in January (28th- 29th January), McArthurGlen’s East Midlands Designer Outlet, reveals the secrets for successful sales shopping and offers top tips to help guide shoppers on making smart fashion choices for 2012.
Donna Goodwin, Marketing Manager at McArthurGlen’s East Midlands, says, “The key to savvy sales shopping is planning ahead and making sensible decisions, for example, choosing items that will always remain in style. A timeless little black dress is a great sales purchase. Size also matters when shopping the sales; avoid the temptation to compromise on size and fit and stick to items you feel comfortable in, that way you’re more likely to wear them often, and they’ll make for a savvy investment.”
Donna’s Top Tips For Shopping the Sale:
1) Check what you already have – Before you leave the house and hit the sales, inspect your wardrobe and make sure you know what you have and what you are missing.
2) Be strategic – Make a list of what you hope to find in the sales and try not to get sidetracked. Remember that just because you’re making a big saving, doesn’t mean it is always right for you.
3) Wear flat shoes and comfortable clothes – It is likely that you will be on your feet, in and out of fitting rooms all day so it’s important to be dressed appropriately.
4) Keep it classic – Aim to build a staple wardrobe. The sales are a great time to pick up timeless classics such as a tailored jacket from Phase Eight. Also be on the lookout for great basics from brands like M&S Outlet and Next such as t-shirts, the perfect ballet flats, or a useful leather handbag like the ones in Fiorelli, to complement items you already have.
5) Keep focussed on your natural style- Take into account the cut, colour, shape and styles that suit you. Make thoughtful purchases that reflect your signature style; the sale is not the time to drastically change your look.
6) Try, try and try again – If it is not a good fit then it is not a good buy. It is always worth asking if there are more sizes available other than those on the shop floor.
7) Accessorise – The easiest way to update your wardrobe is by accessorising. Look for pieces that will make the biggest impact such as statement jewellery from Chapelle or Phase Eight and bright or patterned scarves which are great ways to breathe new life and colour into your wardrobe.
So there we have it. Think flat shoes, a militant strategy and impact accessories. Enjoy!
