New music time! We chatted to our Club Music contributor and Gatecrasher Resident DJ MARTIN WRIGHT about the music that’s creating a buzz this year. He’s written us a review of the upcoming debut album from Danish producer KID MASSIVE:

“On 5th March 2012, Transmission Recordings will release ‘A Little Louder’, the highly anticipated debut album from Danish dance producer, Kid Massive. (Your press only link to the album can be found below)

The Kid has packed his trademark sounds of funk-fused bass and melodic flair into the album; a 12-track, diverse collection of vocal collaborations with some of dance music’s best known and most talented artists.

‘A Little Louder’ is jammed with big tune after big tune, including the quintessential Kid Massive fare ‘Don’t Cry’ (sexy, bassy and bouncy) with Disco in Paris front man and Billboard chart-topping vocalist, Mark Le Sal; and the highly infectious ‘Yawn’ – with pop starlet Sam Obernik and Dutch MC, Jay Colin – the third single to be taken from the album, released on 26th February.

Other highlights include the number 1 single and title track, ‘A Little Louder’ which clocked-up heavy support from the dance music elite including Pete Tong, TV Rock, Bob Sinclar, Eddie Thoneick and man of the moment, Avicii.

Kid Massive is back and on the form of his life with this album and his exceptional creativity and unmatched studio capabilities, combined, make ‘A Little Louder’ a truly stunning album. Its collection of eclectic sounds and vocalists mean there is something on here for everyone. All you need to do now it sit back and indulge yourself in this remarkable powerhouse of collaborations and first class production. Already set to become the must-have electronic album of the year so far, just be sure to turn it up… loud.”

We love a good blog here at 69, so when we came across this gem we had to share. Trendspiration is a blog that covers fashion, art, photography, illustration, celebrity and all things beautiful. We had a chat to Trendspiration creator Sophie Power, to see what it’s all about:

“I studied Fashion and Brand Promotion with Journalism at university and started Trendspiration after I graduated as a fun way to keep up to date with fashion, art and design and organize all of the things I found inspiring.

I first decided to take it seriously when I started to receive emails from readers thanking me for introducing them to certain artists or photographers. Since then it has become an addiction and taken over my life. I spend about 4 hours a night after work searching for new content and reading through submissions.

My blog has helped me do loads of amazing things including attending events like London Fashion Week and getting free stuff!

Trendspiration mainly covers fashion and the latest trends in art, design and culture. I would like to think that it acts as an interactive mood board and that if they looked hard enough anyone could find something inspiring on there (hidden away somewhere). My favorite section of the blog is ‘Trend’ in which we create a visual profile of new trends. The most popular of which has been the ‘Excess’ trend which features gold leaf sushi, diamond grills, and Gareth Pugh gold, mirror-ball dresses amongst other things. Trends I am looking forward to covering next season are ‘Water World’ (think urban mermaids!) and ‘Darling Buds’ (all the florals!)

I am always looking for looking for submissions and collaborations and in the future I would love to expand the blog to feature more magazine-style editorial content, and of course loads more amazing trends.”

Keep it up, we’re already obsessed. Here’s a few examples of what to expect from Trendspiration.

February 2012 sees the opening of Liquor Store a brand new mens retail store in the Great Western Arcade, Birmingham with the focus on denim and an old school approach to service in an inviting Speakeasy setting.

The clothing store will be an exciting addition to the Arcade’s hub of independents and promises the finest denim, casual collection, footwear and accessories from around the globe. With a background in sales for Lee Jeans Phil Hazel, the man behind the concept has used his expertise to bring together an eclectic mix of heritage and next generation brands where each brand and garment has been hand-picked in order to represent the customer.

He explains “I wanted to bring something new and fresh to Birmingham that offers a contrast to the ever crowded high street. My beliefs are based around a passion for denim, product knowledge, customer service and high standards throughout.”

Sharing that product knowledge by telling the story behind the clothing collections is a key philosophy. Phil continues: “We want customers to immerse themselves in the brands we stock. For me it’s fantastic to learn the history behind brands, what they stand for and involving the customer. The brand mix includes Levis, Oliver Spencer, Nudie, Universal Works, Edwin, Red Wing and many more some of which are entirely exclusive to us.”

Open brick work, railway sleepers, steel work and reclaimed bespoke pieces will house the product in an environment that suggests intimacy and the underground appeal of a prohibition speakeasy.

Crest Nicholson, the developer behind the award winning Park Central development in Birmingham, is inviting first time buyers to a special open weekend on Saturday 18th and Sunday 19th February.

Offering first time buyers a chance to speak freely with independent financial advisors (IFA) and experienced sales advisors, the open weekend is aimed at giving first time buyers an insight into the current property market.

As an added incentive, Crest Nicholson will also be holding a raffle with £1,500 worth of Ikea vouchers to give away on the day – not to mention that visitors will be able to reserve a new home over the weekend for just £250!

Ruth Williams, sales manager at Park Central said: “There is so much conflicting information at the moment about whether first time buyers should be investing in a new home or not. So we at Crest Nicholson thought an open weekend aimed specifically at the younger house purchasers would be just what was needed to restore some confidence amongst househunters.

“Buying a new home, especially your first home, is a huge investment and understandably people have many questions that they would like answering before they sign on the dotted line. By speaking to our IFAs and sales advisers, we hope first time buyers will have a chance to gain all the information they need to help them make their decisions. We will be happy to answer any questions regarding deposits, mortgages, and legal fees, alongside what features you should be looking out for in a property and anything else people may need answering. This is the ideal opportunity for first time buyers to find out about the property market and we hope people come along to take advantage of it.”

Visitor levels more than doubled in January at Park Central, with approximately 60 per cent of the visitors being first time buyers.

Park Central offers a variety of one and two bedroom luxury apartments, all of which offer spacious living areas, designer Symphony kitchens and modern bathrooms boasting Hansgrohe mixer taps and stylish Porcelanosa tiling. Additionally, all the apartments benefit from outdoor balcony space overlooking eight acres of landscaped parkland.

Ruth continues: “We are really proud of the high quality of our homes at Park Central, with many people saying that they really stand out in the local market place. They are the perfect properties for first time buyers, benefitting from a contemporary and sleek design and a close proximity to the city centre.

“With prices starting from just £99,950 for a one bedroom apartment and tailor-made deals available for first time buyers, including the government’s FirstBuy scheme and our own EasyBuy initiative, the new homes really are worth a look around. “

The show homes will be open from 10am to 5pm during the open weekend and viewings can be arranged by calling the sales team on 0121 666 4666. Alternatively visit the marketing suite, which is open daily from 10am to 5pm and is located at Park Central, 2 Mason Way, Birmingham B15 2EY. parkcentral.co.uk

We’ve teamed up with the NEC, Birmingham to offer you the chance to win tickets to Crufts 2012, the biggest and best dog event in the world taking place from 8-11th March.

First held in 1891, Crufts predates the modern Olympics by five years. Instead of ‘faster, higher, stronger’, judges will be looking for ‘fitter, healthier, happier’, with just one dog to be crowned with the ultimate title of Crufts Best in Show champion. The 2011 show witnessed a triumph for experience, with a 9½ year old Flatcoated Retriever called Jet getting his paws on the prestigious trophy and becoming the oldest ever winner of Crufts.

One of the most popular areas of Crufts throughout the duration of the show is the Discover Dogs area, where visitors can come and meet around 190 different breeds of dog and find out which breed would suit them and their lifestyle. There is also a dedicated section for breed rescue volunteers, who work to ensure that unwanted and abandoned dogs find a good home. Visitors can also learn about the Kennel Club Assured Breeder Scheme, which has over 7,500 members who put the health and happiness of their puppies, and ensure all necessary health checks are carried out on dogs used for breeding.

As well as a whole host of other canine competition, including agility, obedience, flyball and heelwork to music, the event highlights the diverse role that dogs play in society through a variety of displays and events. Crufts also offers an unparalleled opportunity for some serious retail therapy, with hundreds of trade stands offering a huge range of products for dogs and dog lovers alike.

We’re giving away 4 pairs of tickets to Crufts 2012, fill in the form below to be in with a chance.

Competition closes: 1st March.
